In a recent interview with Variety, former James Bond actor Daniel Craig expressed a nonchalant attitude towards the future of the iconic franchise. When asked who he’d like to see take on the role of 007 next, Craig simply shrugged, “I don’t care.”
The actor, who portrayed the suave spy in five films from 2006 to 2021, concluded his tenure with the critically acclaimed “No Time to Die.” Despite his long-standing association with the character, Craig seems content to move on.
In a 2022 interview with the BBC, he stated, “I had an incredibly fortunate 17 years of my life making this. I literally want to spend the next 20 years of my life trying to unhook it all.”
Craig’s initial casting as Bond in 2006 was met with skepticism and criticism. Longtime Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the press response was “unbelievably negative,” with many doubting Craig’s suitability for the role.
“He couldn’t walk and talk, he couldn’t run, he couldn’t drive a car properly,” McWilliams recalled. However, Craig persevered, and his performances ultimately silenced the doubters.
As for the future of the Bond franchise, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have yet to announce a director or actor for the next installment.
