Sydney Sweeney, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, has bravely exposed the hypocrisy of Hollywood’s “women empowering women” mantra. In a candid interview with Vanity Fair, Sweeney revealed the stark reality behind the facade:
“It’s very disheartening to see women tear other women down,” she lamented. “Especially when women who are successful in other avenues of their industry see younger talent working really hard… and then trying to bash and discredit any work that they’ve done.”
Sweeney further emphasized the pervasive nature of this toxic behavior, stating, “This entire industry, all people say is ‘Women empowering other women.’ None of it’s happening. All of it is fake and a front for all the other s— that they say behind everyone’s back.”
The actress attributed this destructive trend to a deeply ingrained societal issue: “We were raised… to believe only one woman can be at the top. There’s one woman who can get the man. There’s one woman who can be, I don’t know, anything. So then all the others feel like they have to fight each other or take that one woman down instead of being like, Let’s all lift each other up.”
Sweeney’s personal experiences have underscored this harsh reality. Earlier this year, a Hollywood producer publicly criticized her acting abilities and physical appearance, sparking widespread condemnation. A representative for Sweeney called the producer’s remarks “shameful,” highlighting the industry’s tendency to tear down women rather than uplift them.
As a rising star, Sweeney is determined to navigate this challenging landscape with grace and authenticity. She acknowledges the challenges she faces, but remains committed to her craft and refuses to be silenced by negativity.
