Renowned filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is bringing Mary Shelley’s iconic gothic novel Frankenstein to the screen, and the first look at the Netflix adaptation offers a chilling glimpse into the mind of the mad scientist.
“Gothic romance was born partially out of the fascination with ruins,” del Toro shared with Vanity Fair, hinting at the aesthetic of the film. “Sometimes they’re more beautiful than the building complete because it’s the clash of creation and destruction.”
The image, captured on set, provides a haunting view of Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory – a place where life and death intertwine. The gothic architecture and eerie lighting set the stage for a dark and disturbing tale.
Jacob Elordi, known for his roles in Euphoria and The Kissing Booth, will portray the iconic monster, alongside a stellar cast including Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Oscar Isaac. Ralph Ineson, a veteran of horror films like The Witch and The First Omen, will make a pivotal cameo appearance.
Del Toro’s adaptation promises to be a unique and visually stunning interpretation of Shelley’s classic story. The director, known for his gothic sensibilities and imaginative storytelling, has been passionate about bringing Frankenstein to the screen for years.
“The best moments in my mind of Frankenstein, of the novel, are yet to be filmed,” del Toro said in 2008. With production now wrapped, audiences can anticipate a truly unforgettable cinematic experience.
